Mary Battiata and Little Pink South at Mcgonigel’s Mucky Duck, January 2

Date: January 02, 2020

Time: 9:30 pm

Mary Battiata’s newest recording, the unabashedly Country album The Heart, Regardless, has racked up four and five-star reviews and significant airplay since it was released in 2018, rising to #15 and #24 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Country Songs and Top 50 Country Americana albums charts.

“This is a gem of an album – absolutely superb,” said the UK’s longtime preeminent Country and Americana deejay, Whisperin’ Bob Harris (Bob Harris Country, BBC Radio 2).

“Everything you most loved about Dolly and Emmylou is here, with heart-tugging hooks that snag like spurs,” wrote Andrew Darlington, RNR Magazine.

Mary’s singing and songwriting have earned critical comparisons to Rodney Crowell and Rosanne Cash. From home base in Northern Virginia, Mary tours from New York City to Alabama to Austin, making regular appearances at the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, Alabama and The Hank Williams Festival in Georgiana, AL.

For this show, her first at the Mucky Duck, she’ll be hangin’ and sangin’ with the band of Austin aces she tours with in Texas and Oklahoma. It’s a show of Mary’s own Country and Folk-inflected songs, spiced with early Country gems – hits and obscurities – that she’s collected while teaching every summer at the Classic Country Music Week at West Virginia’s Augusta Heritage Center.

“The songs are at a high level; the unstoppable ballad, ‘Things You Say and Don’t Say,’ alone would justify acquiring this CD, as would ‘Can’t Take My Mind Off You,’ an example of the best honky-tonk. Oh, and not to forget – Mary sings superbly.” – Sam Pierre, Le Cri du Coyote (France)
