Sue Grafton’s ‘Alphabet’ is Still One of the Best!
For many, many years readers have enjoyed Ms. Grafton’s ‘Alphabet Series’ and have looked forward to every new letter with excitement. In fact, Ms. Grafton has just released V is for Vengeance, which will allow Kinsey Millhone, beloved P.I., to look forward to only four more adventures.
B is for Burglar arrived on the scene back in 1985, the second investigation for Kinsey who is an ex-policewoman and now runs her own private investigation firm. With this offering, Kinsey finds herself hired by Beverly Danziger to locate her missing sister. Elaine Boldt is the sister; however, there is something far more odd going on than just the fact that Elaine was seen leaving on a flight to Boca Raton just as happy as she could be. The reason behind Beverly’s urgent request is that she needs Elaine to be found in order to sign off on a document so that an inheritance can be passed out to the rest of the heirs.
As Kinsey looks deeper into the woman’s past, it begins to look like the Boca Raton flight simply flew right off the radar. It seems Elaine left her home in California for another place that she owns but no one at either location has seen or heard from her in some time. A witness comes forward saying that Elaine was seen driving a car, but she has no driver’s license. On top of that is the fact that Elaine’s beloved cat is also missing and there is a woman subletting her apartment in Florida who is more than a bit fuzzywhen it comes to the facts of why she’s there and Elaine’s not.
Soon the very un-cordial relationship between Kinsey’s client and Elaine come to the surface. And another crime is uncovered – the murder of Elaine’s friend Marty – which may just have played a hand in Elaine’s sudden disappearance.
As all fans know, Grafton’s characters are very likable and the writing is first-class. It’s a pleasure to know that the ‘Alphabet Series’ is once again being released so that the readers of the 21st Century can enjoy Kinsey Millhone’s adventures from the very beginning!
Until Next Time, Everybody,
